BIC has made some major digital changes in this 2025-2026 school year, including the new Securely system. The Securely system is mainly used for the safety of our students and staff members, including cyber security as well as making sure that students and adults alike are safely accounted for when inside of the building.
One of the primary uses of this new high tech solution to our school’s needs is the digital hall pass system. This isn’t just any regular hall pass though. Once a teacher gives a digital hall pass to a student, the student is timed. Only ten students in the school are allowed to be out of class at one time. This program has the additional benefit of allowing school staff members to see where students are while in the building.
Vice Principal, Mrs. Mandy McFall, is a fan of the new Securely system. She stated that in the first twelve days of school, more than 2,000 digital hall passes were created. “The biggest pro of Securely Pass is knowing where every student is in case of an emergency,” said McFall. McFall went on to say that there are some drawbacks to the system, including the time it can take for a teacher to have to assign a hall pass to an individual student, but overall it seems to be working toward reducing hallway traffic in the school.
The Securely system also scans any adult that comes into the school, checking their state ID to make sure that it is safe for them to enter the building. This has offered a sense of safety to school personnel who are continually working to make the school district a more secure environment for students.
High School art teacher, Carol Hamrick, praised the Securely passes. “Teachers and staff are able to keep up with students a lot more and it has cut off the amount of students leaving the classroom to mess around,” said Hamrick. She went on to quip, “If the school wouldn’t pay for it, I would’ve bought it myself.”
Senior Josh Wynne noted that the new system has definitely had an impact on the school overall, saying the new cyber security aspects have changed the way students use computers. “The Securely AI chat has been a good thing because if you need assistance with classwork, it can be a helpful tool. I’ve been using it to write books in my spare time,” said Wynne.
