The Buffalo Island Central School district is glad to welcome Ms. Megan LaPlaunt to our high school. This school year saw several new teachers added to the district including LaPlaunt.
LaPlaunt went to Hendrix College and got her Masters Degree at Arkansas State University. She started teaching back in 2022. Before she came to BIC she taught at Jonesboro High School. She said she chose to move to BIC because it was a small school like the High School she went to, Highland High School.
LaPlaunt is a teacher who has a strong interest in the field of science. She teaches both Physical Science and Chemistry for the district, and has previously taught AP Environmental Science in her previous role at JHS. She said she chose to become a teacher because when she was a student in school, her science classes were a place that made her feel comfortable. She noted that she loves science so much that she wanted to share it with everyone.
“My favorite part about teaching high schoolers is seeing how goofy the kids can be,” said LaPlaunt.
In addition to teaching science, LaPlaunt said she’s excited to help plan prom because she has never taken on this role before.
