Members of the 2015 Mustang Yearly staff were recognized as national winners in the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists Yearbook Excellence Contest. Over 1,800 entries were submitted and only 321 awards were issued.

Greydon Williams, the 2015 yearbook editor, earned a Gold Key in feature photo for his photograph of principal Randy Rose participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS. The photograph also got an honorable mention the Jostens Photo Contest and was included in Williams’s superior award winning portfolio at the 2014 Fall JEA Write-Off Contest as well as his portfolio that won him his second consecutive Arkansas Scholastic Press Association Photojournalist of the Year designation. Williams is the son of Lanny and Tracey Yates Thompson of Monette.

Camden Metheny, son of Rhonda and Andrew Metheny of Monette, won a Gold Key in the clubs or organization photo category for a shot taken during last year’s homecoming talent show. The photo was also a part of Metheny’s JEA portfolio that earned him a superior award in the 2015 Fall JEA Write-Off Contest at the Orlando convention.

Olevia Hughes, daughter of Lisa Hughes of Monette, received a Gold Key in the student life layout category for her spread on the school’s lip dub video.

These awards are the seventh national awards earned by the program so far this school year. In addition to these awards, four staff members won recognition at the 2015 JEA Fall Convention in Orlando. The staff is advised by Tracey Yates Thompson, CJE.
