The Buffalo Island Central Lady Mustangs basketball team is now set up for greatness like never before, driven by teamwork, dedication, and a tireless pursuit of excellence. Last season’s long overdue run to the State Tournament has ignited a fire within the team, and Coach Trevor Matheny is confident that his squad can take it to the next level.
Coach Matheny acknowledged last season’s challenges. “We struggled with defensive adjustments, but we’ve spent the offseason studying and preparing. We’ll be ready.” That being said the team has the ability to adapt which will be crucial in overcoming their obstacles.
With Confidence and a strengthened team dynamic, Coach Matheny is optimistic. “I’ve never been more confident in our potential. We’ll make further progress and inspire our community.” The players share this enthusiasm, eager to put their names in the history books again.
Sophomore Chandler Gathright echoed Coach Matheny’s sentiments. “We’re working tirelessly to strengthen our team bond. Last year’s state game taught us that unity is key to success.” Gathright’s determination reflects the team’s mindset.
Gathright also emphasized the importance of individual growth. “I’m focused on bettering my skills, whether it’s shooting or rebounding. Every player must focus on their game for us to succeed.” This commitment to self-improvement will propel the team forward.
The Lady Mustangs will make their home debut on November 18th vs. rival Riverside High School. Be sure to show up and support the team.
