The beginning of every school year brings new and exciting changes to Buffalo Island Central, and this year is no different.  Halls filled with bustling students and teachers aren’t the only thing making a comeback this semester. Station K.I.D.S, a daily, student-ran radio program at the BIC Elementary School, has recently began anew after being discontinued for several years.

Station K.I.D.S, also known as “The Cool School Station,” was a previously long-standing tradition at BIC, and was reestablished this year with new equipment, including a speaker system in every classroom. It is housed in the library and set-up in the style of a real radio program.

The daily show is run by the Gifted and Talented students and includes announcements, student birthdays, science facts, the lunch menu, historical facts, Kidz Bop music, and a “Thought for the Day.”

Station K.I.D.S has been a favorite tradition of both students and teachers alike for many years, including Dr. Kima Stewart.

“I think it’s a wonderful way to start each school day!  Our gifted and talented students open with some happy music from Kidz Bop, and then they announce school events for that day and the rest of the week.   In the near future, we hope to install speakers outside so that our morning music greets everyone upon arrival.  This has been an awesome addition to our school day this year!” said Dr. Stewart.

This program has been met with a great deal of positivity since being introduced at BIC. It kicks off the morning in a fun way for everyone, making it a widely enjoyed  part of each morning that is it not only beloved by the students and teachers involved with Gifted and Talent program, but also other students and staff.
