“I was stationed at Naval intelligence school in Washington D.C. I was in at the time before the troops went over, so I was able to see how the troops were trained. There were a lot of goofy, secretive things that would happen there, with people from all over the world. I enjoyed it so much, and if I had the chance to go back and redo it I would.
“I think that the Vietnam soldiers were the ones that initiated the way the current people in service are treated. They were treated so badly. I think they didn’t want anyone else to be treated the same way. I think that is the reason we have a better attitude toward soldiers now days.
“I have talked a lot of my students into going into the military. I am proud I have been able to talk to my students about it and to have influenced them. I just think it is worthwhile if a student doesn’t know what they are going to do, to go into the military. They feed you, clothe you, train you, house you and pay you. I think our military is a perfect place for a student to find out what they are all about.”
