Taylor Swift has been known throughout her career for the Easter eggs she leaves fans, so when she announced 1989(Taylor’s version) on August 9th, fans were anything but shocked after picking up the subtle hints for weeks. Taylor’s journey to regain rights to her music by re-recording them has been something fans have loudly supported and enjoyed. Hearing their favorite albums for the first time again, along with never heard before “vault” tracks.
Originally released in 2014, 1989 became Swift’s first official pop album. With hits like “Shake it Off”, “Wildest dreams”, and “Blank Space,” it quickly became a loved and applauded album. It was a massive mainstream radio success, so when fans heard about the re-records it quickly moved up the list of albums they were most excited for. Being debuted on the nine year anniversary of the original release, 1989 Taylor’s Version still contains the sixteen songs from the previous release, along with five “from the vault” songs. Although the majority of the album is the same songs, Swift has had nine years to change and mature. The style of 1989 changed with this release, feeling more like Swift’s previous album “Midnights” pop than her take on pop in 2014. Along with that her voice matured a lot over the years, and hearing your favorite song for the first time all over again was such an exciting feeling for fans.
A personal favorite of mine from 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is the vault track “Is it Over Now?”. It talks about Swift’s off and on romance with an unknown person. I love how upbeat and catchy it is. I catch myself singing it so often after listening to the album. Another of my favorites is “I Know Places” which was on the original 1989, but with the re-release it shows just how much growth her voice has had and will always remain one of my favorites out of her entire discography.
Overall I enjoyed the album and personally love Taylor Swift, so this album is a 9/10 for me. I feel like it’s very cohesive and a great album to sing and dance along to. It has quickly moved up my list of favorite albums, and I along with many other Swifties have had it on repeat.
