“I first knew I wanted to get involved with firefighting at the fourth of July show in 2013. The Leachville Fire Department raises money every year and puts on a fireworks show and gives away door prizes for the city of Leachville to enjoy. A member in the community that I knew and was close to had a house fire and that’s when I really knew that I needed to get involved with the fire department. It was a very simple process to get involved. I went up to the fire department and turned in my application to be a volunteer. In order to be accepted, you need to be at least 16 years old, have attended high school, and if chosen must complete CPR training. The responsibilities to me mean that I have to devote my time and go out and help others whether i’m busy or not. It means a lot to me to be a volunteer because it means I get to give back to the community that has helped me so much. I love being able to help others and be a part of saving people’s lives and their belongings.”
