Hairy Mustangs team up against cancer
Principal and students raising money during No Shave November
November 4, 2014
Principal Randy Rose has always supported the efforts of various cancer-fighting organizations, participating in Relay for Life and St. Jude events. This year he’s lending his support to the American Cancer Society by leading a team of high school students in the organization’s No Shave November fundraiser.
Rose was recruited to the fundraiser by his son Jonas, who did No Shave November last year as part of his duck hunting ritual.
“He has convinced me to hunt some with them this year and asked if I was going to do the No Shave November,” Rose said. “I had seen television
coverage last year about the American Cancer Society’s NSN fundraising. This year I just thought I could have a dual reason for
not shaving in November: to fit in the duck blind and help raise awareness for cancer research.”
Last week he announced his intention to the student body, and several students immediately signed on to help by foregoing their morning shave for a month. Members of the team will be having some good-natured competition during the month, with Rose giving a prize to the team member who raises the most money and the one with the biggest beard.
Rose himself has a special reason for wanting to get his team together.
“Since my wife’s diagnosis of breast cancer, I thought this would be a fun and unique way of raising a little money that could also include some high school guys that like to think they are manly men,” he said.
People who want to donate to the team’s fundraiser can go to the Hairy Mustangs’ page at the American Cancer Society.
