Everyone has a talent, these talents can vary from being athletic to being artistic or by being crafty. At BIC we are taking a look at some students who have a gift in arts and deserve to have their talent displayed. While most students pursue their artistic hobbies just for fun, some go as far as making profit out of their creations as well.
8th grader Zion Faaliliu is one such student who has seen his creative hobby, making plushies, as a means to entrepreneurship. “I am trying to make a small business out of the plushies just to earn a little bit of pocket money, ” said Faaliliua. Although he has only sold one plushie so far, he hopes to sell more plushies by getting word out about his creations. Zion’s creativity does not stop there, he also creates origami dragon figures and claws.
Crafty students are not rare at BIC as there is another student that does other hands-on creations. Crocheting is a hobby that is tedious but rewarding. It takes a lot of time to do the stitches and sewing everything together. Makenzie White, a Senior, shares her very first time about learning to crochet. “I just crocheted a really, really long line and I never figured out how to do it until this past summer. I actually learned how to do plushies, blankets, and things like that.” Now that Makenzie has mastered the art of crochet she can regularly be seen working on her craft around school. She has completed many special creations that she shares with her friends.
Junior Kaden Healey, a Junior is another creative student who learned of his passion for art and drawing at a young age.“When I was twelve I discovered my talent for it. Then after that I started practicing. I do this so that I can get better and better everyday,” said Healy. Traditional art requires fine technique and skills which can make this hobby intimidating, However, Healy has found his calling to be drawing and has spent years now refining his technique. Years of hard work has finally paid off for Kaden, as he sees drastic improvements in his everyday drawing skills, whether it be for a project or hobby, Kaden is always looking to improve his work along with his skills.
Typically, when someone hears drawing, they would think of traditional art requiring paints, pencils and paper. However, there is another emerging method named digital art. People who practice digital art have to sketch, outline, erase, color, and blend, just as traditional artists do. Senior Destiny Dawson is one student who has honed her skills at digital art, and can often be found drawing in her free time. While Dawson is passionate about her craft, there are still areas of digital art that she feels the need to improve. “For me, the hardest thing about digital art is coloring, I just struggle keeping it right,” said Dawson.
At BIC we truly believe that everyone has a hidden gem inside of them. In this case Zion, Makenzie, Destiny, and Kaden, have shown that they’re hidden gems. Varying from creating plushies to making traditional art, these students highlight the importance of having a creative mind.
