Piper White is simply a student at Buffalo Island Central High School who goes about her day like anybody else and gets her schoolwork done. But to those who know her, she is a bright light of positivity and genuinity, who’s passion for her interests and her artistic ability inspires those around her. She is not only a wonderful student and artist, but a kind and gentle soul that makes everyone around her a happier person.
White is a very deep-felt person, who has a deep care for those she cares about and calls her friends. Having gone to BIC for her entire life, she knows and loves the community and the people here, sharing countless experiences with them throughout the years. She also has a deep love for her state, having said that “Despite this place’s flaws, I can’t have thought of a better place to spend my childhood.”
Her artistic journey started when she was a young child, when her mother had first gotten her an Ipad. Like many, she was infatuated with the technology that she was just seeing for the first time. “One of my daughter’s favorite things to do on there was to mess with the different pens and colors and show them to me,” said her mother, Amber White, who was proud of how far her daughter’s love of artistry has gone as she’s grown up.
White’s further pursuit of art came from the time that she spent reading books in the library, where she became infatuated with the fantasy worlds that were inside the novels she read. “I’m not a genius reader or anything, but I think that anyone can appreciate a nice book,” said White. Combining this with her knack of giving the world her own spin with her pencils and pens, her mind is one of creative genius that can find inspiration anywhere.
Even when the world was thrown upside down in the years we’ve lived through, such as the COVID-19 shutdown of all schools during 2020, White only took the opportunity to further her skills and to explore what mediums of art worked best for her.
White shared her experience during that time, saying, “It gave me a lot of free time I wouldn’t have otherwise had. Gave me the opportunity to really see what I liked doing, and experimenting with everything I had.”
More recently, White’s biggest inspiration for creating the stunning pieces that she has are, by her own words, “Things that I just think are cool, things that I want to put down on paper.” White is most comfortable when she’s taking inspiration from the real world and putting her own spin on it with the fantasy elements she’s grown accustomed to from the books she has read.
Beyond her art, the girl is known by everyone who’s close to her for how kind she is to them. “Piper is one of the best people I know,” said one of her close friends, Lauren Osborn, who has known her since seventh grade. Her unwavering dedication to doing the right thing, and treating everyone with respect shines through with the way that those around her talk about her.
White spends her days doodling during class and joking around with her friends, pursuing other interests while keeping in touch with the arts that she’s grown so accustomed to. She participates in the local theater program, learns the guitar on the weekend, and continues to create at any given opportunity.
