In spite of rain, the Christian student-led group, C.O.D.E. (Changing Others by Devoting Everything), held its first luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 29. The luncheon was held at the Mustang Athletic Complex and was opened to any student who wished to attend. A sign-up sheet was posted in the hall for two weeks to get a general idea of how much food would be needed. Fifty-one students attended.
The charge for the meal was $1 and was paid at the door. The price included a plate of spaghetti, a salad, a drink, and dessert. The funds collected will go to the CODE organization and will be used to provide breakfast for Tuesday morning CODE meetings. They may also fund other luncheons or extra activities sponsored by CODE.
All food was provided by local church members and volunteers who stated they were happy to help. The food was plentiful and students were encouraged to get seconds.
The guest speaker for the event was Leachville First Baptist’s youth director, Justin Lowe. Mr. Lowe taught a lesson over “Who is your God?” while the students ate. Mr. Lowe is actively involved in CODE and serves as a role model to many students. He is currently on a mission trip with other fellow Christians.
The stewards of CODE were very happy with the outcome of their first luncheon. Club president, Nicole Poe, stated, “Overall, it was really good. Time was a bit of an obstacle but Mr. Rose was very understanding and, the food was good.”
CODE plans to continue hosting luncheons. Future plans include moving the luncheons to the home economics room to be closer to the school.
