It’s Tuesday, I am starving, and there is nothing that will really satisfy my hunger like some crispy, juicy chicken fingers. The first thing that comes to my mind is Zaxby’s, the Southern-born fast-food chain that could have just about been founded on the base of fried chicken and a side of your favorite dipping sauce.
The Chicken, Oh the Chicken!
Let’s cut to the basics: the chicken fingers at Zaxby’s are the real deal. They’re hand-breaded, cooked to a perfect golden brown, and boast a satisfying crunch in each bite. The meat itself is surprisingly juicy and flavorful, not dry or stringy like some fast-food chicken can be. I went with the classic “chicken finger plate,” which came with five fingers, fries, Texas toast, and my choice of dipping sauce; more on that in a minute.
Zax Sauce: A Love Story
Ah, Zax Sauce. Where do I even begin? This creamy, tangy, slightly spicy blend is the stuff of legends, for good reason. It’s the perfect complement to the crispy chicken, adding a burst of flavor that will make you lick your fingers clean, maybe even the container. Seriously, they could sell this stuff in bottles by the gallon.
Fries
If you’re looking for tasty french fries during your visit to Zaxybys’, rest assured knowing that you won’t be disappointed by what they have to offer – perfectly cooked potatoes giving both excellent texture and delightful flavors make this side dish a worthy addition alongside their famous chicken dishes. A good thing to point out is that the seasoning on the fries are on the spot, I can never get enough. This being said, sometimes the fries seasoning is inconsistent on each visit.
Beyond the Fingers: A Decent Selection
While chicken fingers are definitely the star of the show, Zaxby’s does have other menu items, and a decent variety at that. Salads, if you’re feeling healthy-ish, sandwiches, wings, even “The Nibblerz” , which is a favorite meal when I’m not so hungry.
The Not-So-Great
Downsides first: for one, Zaxby’s can be a tad pricey. I spent around $12 on my meal, which seems a bit steep for fast food. The place wasn’t dirty or anything, but then again, it wasn’t exactly spotless either, with a few too many stray napkins and crumbs on the floor.
Customer Service: Leaves Room for Improvement
Finally, the customer service was a bit of a letdown. The cashier seemed like they’d rather be anywhere else but taking my order. They weren’t rude, but they weren’t particularly friendly or helpful either. A smile and a “How can I help you?” would have gone a long way.
Final Verdict: Worth a Visit
All in all, Zaxby’s is a great place to stop in when you are craving some seriously good chicken fingers and your favorite dipping sauce. Just prepare to pay a few extra bucks and don’t be too wowed by the ambiance or customer service.
Final Rating:
3.5 out of 5 stars.I Would go back for chicken and Zax Sauce but not on a day when I’m not extra picky about cleanliness or customer service.
