Book Drive
October 10, 2016
The Buffalo Island Central East 5th and 6th grade Student Government has been striving to provide great services to the public. They have already started the year off with two great service projects, a book drive and a change drive. The BIC community is extremely proud.
For the year of 2016, the Student Government consists of Social Studies Teacher, Mrs.Mary Beth Gardner, who came up with the great idea to donate books, and sixth grade leaders: President – Macie Hatch, Vice-President- Maddy Tharp, and Reporter – Krystyn Hawkins.
“The book drive was a great thing because every child deserves to read. I gave eight books and it made me feel great to give these books because reading is so important in life.” Maci Hatch, 6, said.
The Class Representatives include Ella Schlenker, Lextan Corter, Hallee Wells, Claire Jackson, and Max McCord in fifth grade. Isaiah Cerda, Maggie Castanon, Kara Hawkins, Cason Rose, Wyatt Cornish, and Parker Anderson represent the sixth grade class.
The book drive was for St. Amnant Public School in Prairieville, Louisiana after completely losing their libraries due to the recent flooding. They have been holding class for third through fifth graders in a community college due to the damages the school has taken from the flood water. This community college has no library available for them.
The Student Government felt that this school needed help. Students of BIC have been collecting books to help build the school a new library. The students did a fantastic job at bringing books. They have collected 703 books.
