During this school year’s second semester, Amy Davis-Keiter has joined part of the school faculty as a nurse. She has been a welcome addition to our school, bringing her expertise to our campus.
Keiter’s previous experience includes graduating from Arkansas State University and working at St. Bernards Medical Center, where she worked for 16 years. At St. Bernards, Keiter was a lung navigator, meaning she screened lung cancer and worked with lungs overall. Keiter specialized in CPR and was getting trained in a few other things at St. Bernards. Keiter has worked at two other places, she was a neuro nurse, lung navigator and she works at Monette Manor part time.
Keiter has two children, Lance Davis, an officer here at the school, and Daniel Davis, a BIC Alumni like her. Keiter also has three grandchildren, Cayden Davis, a sophomore, Mace Davis, a kindergartner, and Drennan Davis, who is just two years old. In her free time, Keiter likes to spend time with her family, she watches her grandchildren play sports and goes to various events for her grandchildren.
Keiter has been a BIC alumni ever since it consolidated. Keiter loves BIC so far and she can’t wait for what the future at this school holds for her. Keiter said, “When the job came open, I was excited about it. I love BIC. My grandkids are also at BIC, so it was perfect.”
Keiter chose to be a school nurse because she’s “a little older now” in her own words, and the summers off seemed great. She was inspired to be a nurse when her children’s father was diagnosed with cancer. They spent a lot of time at the hospital and since he unfortunately passed away, healthcare became a passion of hers. This drove her to pursue nursing as a career.
What she likes most about being a school nurse is interacting with the kids. Additionally she enjoys that a school environment is typically more laidback than a hospital. The most challenging thing about being a school nurse is that it’s a whole new ballgame for her since it’s much different from a hospital and she also doesn’t know much about the school.Keiter went on to say that she is excited to learn all there is to know about our campus. She will have to quickly adjust to our school culture, but this should be no problem for the veteran nurse.
