The retirement of Elementary Principal Dr. Kima Stewart brought about a great deal of changes in the BIC administration, with Mr. Matthew Sills taking over her role as the elementary Principal. With Mr. Sills’ promotion leaving a void in the High School administration team, Superintendent Mr. Taylor opted to make innovative changes at the High School level. These new changes resulted in Mrs. Mandy McFall and Mr. Taylor Layne filling in for Mr. Sills . Mrs. McFall and Mr. Layne now serve in a new role for the district: Dean of Students.
Mrs. McFall reflected on how her past experience as a counselor can help her in her new role.“There is a lot of crossover from my position as counselor, but I didn’t spend the majority of my time as a disciplinarian. I do feel with a counselor background I can offer a different ideology or problem solving for behavior issues. The new job is a change of pace and I feel that to be a progressive educator, change is necessary.”
As a part of her new role, Mrs. McFall will continue to counselor Seniors, which is a change from counseling 10-12th grade students as she did in the past. “I am glad that isn’t something I had to give up. It is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job,” said McFall.
Mr. Layne will continue to be the Boys Basketball Coach while he functions as Dean of Students for the district. “I really enjoy both coaching basketball and being the Dean of Students. I love coaching, but one day I want to move into administration only and being Dean of Students is a good way to reach that goal. It can be busy at times, but I would not want it any other way,” said Layne.
